Truth Is Poetry
Same Time
By: Craig A. M. Goines
16 years old trying to be the man of the house.
This child cries on a bridge because it's not working out.
His job doesn't pay enough to help with the bills.
School grades are dropping and he knows it's not good.
His mom is never home because she works two jobs.
He looks down at the shallow water full of rocks.
Wonders if it would be easier to end his life, and a tear drops.
As it blows in the wind a little girl of 15 had the same idea.
Her and her dad always fights.
The people she calls friends aren't friends at all.
In her room she has pictures of graves and bones on the wall.
Her father goes to work so she's home alone.
Sitting in her room with a knife that could cut her to her bone.
Her eyes water.
A tear runs down her face, as she thinks about if she'll go to a better place.
He prays.
God it seems like I have no other choice.
Just want things to be better.
Open up your eyes and look!
My life is on the like and it feels like you turned your back.
I'm just asking for your help.
I might not be the only one so please open up your arms.
My soul is in pain God.
Please save me from harm.
She closed her eyes with the knife on her skin.
Blood on her mind, and life coming to an end.
When in walks her father full of rage.
Work went bad and dinner wasn't made.
She presses the knife and gets ready to pull.
When she heard his tear drop hit the floor.
He bent on a knee and held her in his arms
I love you and can't lose anyone else.
In you I see your mother, but don't make the same mistake.
The little boy of 16 climbed up on the ledge.
Tears in his eyes and sweat on his forehead.
He spread his arms like a bird taking flight.
Wind in his hair he leans forward.
The wind stops for a brief second.
His heart slowed down.
The tears on his face dried away.
The wind picks up and blows him backwards.
He falls on his butt.
Two lives are saved at the last moment. Whose life was saved with yours?
